Ideas versus Execution

We all love ideas.  I understand too.  Ideas are full of hope and promise.  A good idea is a small version of our own potential.  It is very easy to get excited about ideas.  There is, of course, one big problem with getting too excited about ideas.

Don’t worry.  This podcast and blog is not intended to be even a little bit of Debbie Downer.  None of us need that on a Monday!  Hopefully it’s the opposite of that.  Hopefully this is the day you take that idea, and actually DO something about it.  An idea, by itself has absolutely no value.  But idea that is soundly executed on (consistently) can have real value to you for the rest of your life.

Execution is the key.

Have you ever had anyone in your life that was always full of good ideas…but none of them ever got accomplished?  We all know that person.  Here’s the hard question.  Are you that person?  Have you ever had a great idea but not acted on it?  Yeah…me too.  We all have.  Don’t get me wrong, we had great “reasons.”  We didn’t have the time.  We didn’t have the money.  But at the end of the day, we simply did not decide to execute.

Remember, the absence of a decision is a decision.

So my encouragement for you today is simple.  Go.  Do.  If you want to increase your sales, don’t just talk about it.  Make an extra 5 or 10 sales calls today.  Then repeat that tomorrow.  If you want to write a book, write today.  Repeat that tomorrow.  If you want to start a business, then start taking action today.

You don’t have to get it all done today.  But you have to start.  Ideas are fine.  But if you want to accomplish anything cool, spend time on the execution.  Go get it!
