Have you ever purchased a new workout routine? If not, consider starting a new running plan or starting a new hobby, or joining a gym. There is a fresh excitement that focuses your effort. You are excited to get started, so you do preparation work before you even begin. Maybe, in the case of the new workout plan, you set space aside in the basement. You might also figure out what you are going to eat for the week. You even make sure you have the right equipment, clothes, etc. The excitement of the new journey (and ultimately results) get you pumped to put in the work…and then get started.
You are excited because you are about to stretch yourself. You are energized about getting better…and about who you are about to become.
It’s time to look at a Sales Plan this way. So many times, all of us as sales people simply put numbers on a piece of paper and say we have a plan. But it’s not enough to stretch us. It’s not enough to excite us. So there is no way we are going to put in the extra work to get us ready.
Consider your next Sales Plan like you would P90X. It is going to really stretch you. You are going to be uncomfortable for a lot of the process (especially in the beginning). You are going to be forced into exercises, nearly every day, that you don’t do all of the time. But, with the consistent effort, you will see results. You will be proud of the “you” you become.
I have challenged some of my team to take on a new sales plan. In doing so, I started to really do the pre-work myself. It has stretched me. That’s a good thing. Sometimes to regain our edge and our focus, we need to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone. That is where the real growth begins.
So create a real sales plan that challenges you and excites you. That’s when the Sales 6 Pack will appear.
