Is it an expense or an investment?

When it comes to business (and life) there are plenty of places to spend our resources, time and money. Around every turn, someone has their hand out. Everyone has the perfect solution to some urgent problem that we might be facing. And with all of those opportunities to spend, it can be hard to decide what is a good use of our resources.

In addition, I am easily excited. When I see a new opportunity or solution, I often want to dive in quickly and check it out. That haste has certainly led to some poor purchasing decisions in my life. So here is a question I like to ask myself.

Is this an expense or an investment?

An expense is just that. It costs us time or money with no foreseeable return. It is an empty purchase with empty calories, that might give us a short-term dopamine hit but does not push us toward our long-term goals.

An investment is the opposite. While it costs us time or money (or both) in the short term, it pays the way for a brighter future. It is something that might push us back a step or two in order to shape our business or ourselves into a better version.

If it’s an expense, you might want to avoid it. If it’s an investment, you can look at it based on the ROI you hope it might actually bring.

My goal is to continue to provide you with value…and ways to grow.  With that in mind, Here is our TARGET marketing playbook.  It will help you identify your perfect customer, build your list, and build your brand.  Get your copy of the playbook for free here.
