Different Than Our Expectations

different than expectations

When we begin any journey (fitness, business, family, etc.), we often create an expectation in our minds.  That expectation is the ideal version of the outcome and situation.  We create the perfect version of our life (or job or whatever).  Creating a vision is good.  It helps to guide us as we make decisions.  That’s why goals are so important.

The problem with that vision, of course, is that life doesn’t always work out that way.  As a matter of fact, it often doesn’t.  We are dealing with other people, their visions, their expectations, and the unexpected emergencies of the universe.  Then we run into a world that is different than our expectations.

But “different than our expectations” doesn’t always equal “bad.”

So often, as we journey into the world (chasing our vision) new roads open up.  Sometimes they are because of our hard work and sometimes they are random.  But each time that happens, it’s important to view these situations that are “different than our expectations” with an open mind.  Often they are totally different than what we had in mind…but they are exciting.  Sometimes we need to re-adjust the sail and get back on track.

It’s important to keep an open mind and an open heart.  Just remember that just because the situation is “different than our expectations” does not mean it can’t be amazing.
