What Are You Excited About?

what are you excited about?

Gary Vaynerchuk has said that if you are living for the weekend, “your shit is broken.”

And yet, it seems that most people I run into are constantly complaining about Mondays or proudly proclaiming “TGIF!”  Our shit is broken.  Don’t get me wrong.  We all have “those weeks” when everything seems harder than it needs to be.  We all have times when we want an extra Saturday mixed in our weekend.  That’s natural.

But if you are always like that…well…your shit is broken.  And it seems to me that it comes down to a simple question.

What are you excited about?

It seems that 99% of people are living in the past.  They are constantly repeating their days…over and over.  These people wake up stressed or frustrated about what happened at work yesterday.  And the moment they wake up, they start to think about it, and boom, they are living yesterday again.

The solution to this is to start to dream.  The people I know that are vibrant and fired up about life have given themselves permission to imagine something different.  They have created a vision in their mind they are excited to chase.  And when the whirlwind of life frustrates them, they have something they can cling to that provides them purpose.

The challenge is, that most people won’t allow themselves to dream.  Dreaming is personal and scary.  It requires introspection and vulnerability.  And there is no roadmap to tell you what you want.  It’s for you to decide…and you only.  So 99% of people won’t do this work.

Will you?

It brings me back to this simple question.

What are you excited about?

What project or passion do you have in life that inspires you?  Is there something that you want to start or learn or grow?  Write that down.  Get it out of your head and on paper.

Now start to imagine what kind of person does that sort of project.

Your job, my friend, is to start to take action like that person.  You might not be that person today.  The job is to become that person.  Live into that.

And when you do, you will find that you will not be “living for the weekend” anymore.
